Take notice of Shodaime two large scrolls and 8 weapons. We'll come back to that.
We also know Shodaime can control Bijuu.
Here's the big question. Did Shodaime fight Madara and Kyuubi alone? I don't think so. In chapter 404 not only did we find out that Madara is the Kage of the Hidden Mist but we now have confirmation that Shodaime was in possession of MULTIPLE Bijuu.
And that's where it is.
Shodaime fought Madara and the Kyuubi with the Bijuu, possibly even all of them.
The Kyuubi is said to have the ultimate chakra. One would think it would take all 8 other bijuu to hold him back. This would allow Shodaime to go one on one with Madara.
Ok. Time to explain.
Why does Shodaime have those eight weapons? My theory is that Shodaime went around the known world and captured all the tailed beasts and sealed them into these eight weapons thereby allowing him to access some of the power without unleashing a crazy chakra monster. This is why he was known as the greatest Shinobi of the time and why he was chosen as the Hokage. He was that awesome. He temporarily rid the world of the Bijuu and then we later find he gave them to the other countries when the military power of the new world he created(countries and hidden villages) needed to be balanced.
In the image we see 7 swords and one huge shuriken near two large scrolls.
Wait... Seven swords? Where have we heard that before?
The Seven Swordsman of the Hidden Mist.
And who did we just find out is Mizukage? Madara.
The guy who said he admired and feared Shodaime. So If these weapons were used in the The Valley of the end I would say they were used to release the bijuu. I'm not saying they weren't used as weapons themselves but I think that is why they were brought out.
Somehow they later end up in Madara's hands after Shodaime's death perhaps as a souvenir of the crazy ass battle he survived. Or perhaps as a reminder of Shodaime. I think this is very plausible considering what we know about the mist. From the Zabuza Arc we found out about the Bloody Mist which I think we can now safely assume is because Madara instituted the same kill your brother mentality on the Mist that he did on the Uchiha. This has been building since the FIRST ARC! The Seven Swordsman were the most ruthless bloodthirsty killing machines to come out of the Mist and were granted these special swords as a symbol of that status. This makes SOOO much sense if we assume the history I just provided for the swords. He gave those that followed his ideology the weapons that the greatest noble Hokage used. It's kinda of Madara saying, "I WAS RIGHT DAMMIT!".
I know there are some bumps in the theory like what the swords look like and what the hell is Samehada, but I think this is a good start and the revelations about the Mist are going have some major repercussions.
